Personally, I’m a fan! Especially because for adults, you can make a slightly braised, caramelized version… Yum!

Endives with ham, sometimes called “chicons” in Belgium, are a delicious specialty from Nord-Pas-de-Calais, Belgium, and the Netherlands. It’s a wonderfully comforting dish where Belgian endives are carefully wrapped in slices of ham to create a flavorful gratin.

But here, we’re going to adapt the recipe a little so it can be served to the littlest eaters 🙂

So I decided to introduce endives to my baby, and what better way than with the classic ham and endive recipe? (My daughter loved it!)

Endive is rich in fiber and vitamins. Let’s get started!

Here’s what you’ll need to make this ham, endive, and Gruyère purée recipe for baby (from 6 months; I got about 12.7 oz / 360 g with these quantities, or 2 small 6.3 oz / 180 g jars):

Ingredients

2 Belgian endives (about 9 oz / 260 g once trimmed and chopped)

1 starchy potato for purée (about 3 oz / 90 g)

1 oz cooked ham (30 g)

2 tablespoons grated Gruyère / swiss cheese (10 g)

1 tablespoon crème fraîche / sour cream

Preparation

<img fetchpriority="high" fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1908" src="https://www.cookingformybaby.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/endives-pour-bebe.jpg" alt="Endives for baby" width="1200" height="798" title="" srcset="https://www.cookingformybaby.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/endives-pour-bebe.jpg 1200w, https://www.cookingformybaby.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/endives-pour-bebe-500x333.jpg 500w, https://www.cookingformybaby.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/endives-pour-bebe-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.cookingformybaby.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/endives-pour-bebe-768x511.jpg 768w, https://www.cookingformybaby.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/endives-pour-bebe-1024x681.jpg 1024w, https://www.cookingformybaby.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/endives-pour-bebe-1170x778.jpg 1170w, https://www.cookingformybaby.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/endives-pour-bebe-585x389.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" data-pin-title="Ham and Endive Purée with Gruyère for Baby" data-pin-description="Want a baby-friendly twist on classic endives with ham?
