Looking for a baby compote that is a little different from the classic apple-pear combo, while still being very gentle for baby? This apple, rhubarb and strawberry compote is perfect in spring: rhubarb adds a lightly tangy note, and strawberry naturally softens it.
The apple makes a reassuring base and gives the compote a lovely smooth texture.
The result: a balanced, easy-to-digest compote that is also very simple to make — ready in about 15 minutes! And if baby is just starting compotes, you can adjust the amount of rhubarb and introduce it gradually.
Ingredients
For about 2 small jars of compote
How to make apple, rhubarb and strawberry compote
Wash the rhubarb, apple and strawberries.
Peel the apple, remove the core and cut it into small cubes. Place it in the steamer basket.
Peel the rhubarb, removing the strings if needed, cut it into pieces, then add it to the steamer basket.

Start steaming and cook for 8 minutes.
Meanwhile, hull the strawberries, cut the larger ones in half, then add them to the steamer basket and continue cooking for 5 minutes.

Blend until you get a very smooth texture, or leave it slightly textured depending on baby’s age and comfort with textures.
Enjoy, baby!

Why this compote is great for baby
This is an interesting compote to introduce new flavors gently: rhubarb has a naturally tangy taste, perfect for gradually varying flavors and avoiding only very sweet compotes. Since everything is cooked and blended, the texture is suitable for babies who are just starting solids.
It is also a quick recipe, ready in about 15 minutes, that stores very well and freezes nicely in small portions. Perfect for preparing several snacks ahead of time and always having a homemade baby compote ready.
FAQ
Is rhubarb okay from 6 months?
Yes, if it is well cooked and blended into a compote, and offered in small amounts at first because of its tangy flavor. As always, introduce it gradually.
Can I sweeten the compote?
No, it is not necessary and it is best to avoid added sugar. The apple and strawberries already bring natural sweetness.
Why is the compote a little tart?
That is normal: rhubarb is naturally tangy. To make the compote milder, increase the amount of apple or choose a slightly sweeter apple.
