We always wonder what to dress baby in for sleep, and even more when the temperature of the room is really cold or really hot…
What is the ideal temperature for your baby’s room?
The ideal temperature of your baby’s room should be between 64°F and 68°F (18°C and 20°C). It seems cold to you? I know, same for me… but your baby actually acclimates much better in a room where it is cool, while being well covered, rather than in a warmer room.
I check the temperature of my baby’s room
A small thermometer will do the trick (But you’ll always have to think of checking it before you put your baby to sleep). Be aware that some babyphones are equipped with a thermometer with alert in case of temperatures too cold or too warm. Very convenient!

I have a doubt ? I go watch my baby …
There must be no doubt! So the best thing is to go and check that your baby is sleeping well and that he is not too hot or too cold with the clothes he is wearing. To do this :
Check your baby’s belly: it is a little warm, everything is well.
Check your baby’s little feet: They are normally slightly cooler than his belly.
Attention, your baby can also be a little chilly or tends to quickly warm up, or even has fever, so please adapt your baby’s clothes accordingly!
To conclude…
Try to keep your baby’s room at a temperature between 64°F and 68°F (18°C and 20°C).
Make sure your baby is neither too hot nor too cold during his sleep, do not hesitate to go and check if you have any doubt.
Do not cover too much your baby! Over heating increases the risk of SIDS.
Adapt your baby’s clothes for the night by checking his small belly and his small feet an hour after you put him to sleep.
Have a good night babies!

Hi!
Do we need to cover him in blanket after these layers of clothes? His face tends to get colder. My son is 5 mth old btw. Thanks in advance!
Tania
Most will advise against blankets in the crib until babe is much older. My son is 18 months and still doesn’t sleep with blankets in the crib. Loose items in the crib increases the risk of SIDS. If you follow the chart above and use sleep sacs your babe should be fine!
What is the difference between tog 0.5, tog 1 and tog 2? my baby’s sensitive skin cant use the fleece materials, but can’t use cotton. Thanks for your chart – so helpful.
Very helpful indeed because am relocating with my son to cooler weather…thanks alot
Thank you once again..
You should never have a baby sleep with hats/gloves on. That’s the first thing the midwives tell you! It’s what the Lullaby Trust advises against, as it increases SIDS.
my baby is one month how do I dress him both night and morning during raining seasons
If I dress my Lo in short sleeve while she sleeps. Her hands, arms, and feet are Ice cold when she awakes. We usually keep the thermostat on 76 but during the day she is burning up in long sleeve.

Are you living in an area that sees a decent snowfall each year? If yes! then sledding may be a beloved winter activity for your kids in winter. But it can be difficult for parents to find the right sled for their kids that won’t crack or break if a rope gets to pull a little too hard.
