Today I’m sharing a baby-friendly pasta recipe that’s become a big favorite at home, and one that’s perfect from 8 months old.
We’re giving the classic pesto a gentle twist, using spinach and peas to create a creamy, nutritious sauce packed with flavor and perfectly adapted for little ones.
These tiny alphabet pasta shapes are ideal for helping baby discover new textures, and the result is a delicious, comforting dish, smooth, flavorful, and easy to eat.
Bonus: it’s a great way to introduce green vegetables early on, in a soft and tasty way.
Ingredients
For one portion – approx. 7 oz / 200g :
- 2.5 oz fresh spinach (70g)
- 2.5 oz peas, fresh or frozen (70g)
- 0.3 oz grated parmesan (8g)
- 0.35 oz dry alphabet pasta (10g)
- 2 to 3 fresh basil leaves
- 1 tsp olive oil
Preparation
Start by filling a saucepan halfway with water. This will be used to cook the pasta and steam the vegetables simultaneously.
Wash the spinach thoroughly and remove the tougher parts of the stems. Rinse in 2–3 bowls of clean water to eliminate any dirt or sand. Place the spinach leaves in your steamer basket.
Prepare the peas: if fresh, shell and rinse them. Frozen peas are fine too, no need to thaw in advance. Add them to the steamer basket with the spinach.
Weigh out 10g of dry alphabet pasta.
Cooking
Once the water is boiling, add the pasta and cook according to the package instructions, adding 2 extra minutes for a very soft, baby-friendly texture.
Place the steamer basket over the pan and steam the spinach and peas for about 8 minutes, until very tender.
While it cooks, grate the parmesan and rinse the basil leaves.
Once everything is cooked, drain the pasta and set it aside.
In a blender or mini food processor, add the steamed spinach, peas, basil leaves and olive oil. Blend until smooth and creamy. Add the parmesan and blend again until fully combined.
Mix the sauce with the cooked pasta.
Ready to serve!
This spinach and pea baby pesto is rich in nutrients, soft in texture, and full of flavor.
Perfect for lunch or dinner from 8 months old.
