During baby-led food diversification, we often think about fruit purées, soft finger foods… but you can also offer baby super simple little recipes that are delicious without turning into overly sugary desserts!
This homemade whipped cream for baby with little strawberries is a light idea to serve alongside fresh seasonal fruit. Here, I use whole heavy cream without additives, very cold, simply whipped with a few vanilla bean seeds. No sugar needed for baby: the strawberries already bring a naturally sweet touch!
It’s an ideal recipe for introducing a new texture to baby: an airy, melt-in-the-mouth cream that’s very soft on the palate, served in small amounts alongside very ripe strawberries adapted to baby’s age.

Ingredients
For 3 servings:
Instructions
Start by placing the heavy cream in the refrigerator several hours before making the recipe. For the whipped cream to whip properly, the cream must be very cold.

Pour the 2/3 cup whole heavy cream (150 g) into a mixing bowl. Ideally, the bowl can also be cold, but room temperature works fine if the cream is properly chilled.
Add a few vanilla bean seeds to naturally flavor the cream.

Using an electric mixer, whip the cream gradually until you get a light and airy texture. The whipped cream should hold its shape slightly without becoming too stiff (although I personally love it extra firm here!).

For babies from 7 months, keep the whipped cream without added sugar.
If serving this recipe to a child over 12 months, you may add 1 level tablespoon powdered sugar while whipping the cream if desired, but you’ll see that plain or vanilla-flavored cream is already perfect with naturally sweet strawberries!

Wash the strawberries, remove the stems, then cut them into tiny pieces adapted to baby’s age and chewing abilities. The strawberries should be very ripe, soft, and easy to mash.
Serve a few small strawberry pieces with a little cloud of homemade vanilla whipped cream.
Enjoy your meal, baby!

Tips for Successful Homemade Whipped Cream
To make successful homemade whipped cream, the most important thing is using very cold whole heavy cream. Cream that is too light or not cold enough will have trouble whipping properly.
Preferably choose cream with at least 30% fat and no additives.
The mixing bowl can be chilled in the refrigerator for a few minutes before starting, but this isn’t mandatory if the cream is already very cold (I never do it!).
Avoid over-whipping: if the cream becomes grainy, it’s starting to turn into butter.
At What Age Can You Offer This Whipped Cream to Baby?
This recipe can be offered from 7 months, in very small amounts, if baby has already started food diversification and tolerates dairy products incorporated into recipes well.
Stick to a version without added sugar before 12 months.
As always, adapt the strawberry texture to baby: tiny soft pieces, mashed strawberries, or finely chopped depending on their comfort level.
Storage
Homemade whipped cream is best right after preparation.
In the refrigerator: a few hours maximum, in a sealed container.
In the freezer: not recommended.

FAQ
Can you give whipped cream to a baby?
Yes, in small quantities, if it’s homemade with suitable cream and without added sugar before 12 months. Whipped cream should remain a fun little treat, not an everyday dessert 😉
What cream should you choose for homemade whipped cream for baby?
Choose whole heavy cream, ideally without additives, with at least 30% fat. It must be very cold to whip properly.
Can you sweeten whipped cream for baby?
Before 12 months, it’s best to avoid added sugar. Very ripe strawberries and vanilla already bring enough sweetness. From 12 months, you can add a small amount of powdered sugar, but it’s truly optional.
Can whipped cream be prepared ahead of time?
Yes, but it won’t hold its texture as well over time. For the best texture, it’s better to prepare it just before serving or only a few hours in advance.
