Today we are preparing a new Christmas recipe for baby. Last week, we already listed all the ingredients we needed to make little Christmas tree cookies. This week, we are making the compote to go with them! And the flavor combination is magical: lychee, apple, and grapefruit—a little treat!
Lychee is THE fruity flavor of all our Christmases… and it goes all the way back to early childhood, so we really want to share it with Baby. I already shared it last year in my mango, lychee, and lemon compote recipe. This year, we are back with a new flavor combination!
The grapefruit adds another fruity note to the compote, but above all a tangy one. The apple, meanwhile, brings sweetness. We do our best to find a balance between the flavors without softening them too much (otherwise it feels like cheating, and that is not really the point…). The goal is truly for Baby to discover tastes and flavors in different ways as we move through this food-diversification stage.
This recipe is very simple and very quick to prepare, which is perfect if we have 15,000 things to make for our guests at the same time 😉
Here is what you need to make this Christmas recipe: lychee, apple, and grapefruit compote for baby (from 6 months, makes about 2/3 cup / 150 g of compote):
Ingredients
Preparation

Start with the Golden Delicious apple. Wash it, peel it, then cut it into thin slices. Place the slices in the steamer basket.

Now move on to the lychees. Peel and pit 5 of them. The central part stuck to the pit can sometimes be a little tough, so feel free to remove it with a small knife so that only the white lychee flesh remains (exactly what I did not do… as you can see in the photo below 😉).

Cooking
Now it is time to steam. First, place the apple slices in the basket and steam for 7 minutes.
After 2 minutes of cooking, add the lychee flesh; everything will steam for 5 more minutes.

Meanwhile, prepare the grapefruit juice. Cut the grapefruit in half and squeeze one half until you have 2 teaspoons (10 ml) of grapefruit juice.
Although the flavors are balanced, if you are not sure how baby will react to this tangy taste, feel free to add the grapefruit juice at the very end (once the apple and lychee are cold), tasting as you go until you reach the level of tartness you want 😉

Set the freshly squeezed grapefruit juice aside.
Once the apple and lychees are cooked, place them in the blender and blend until you get a very smooth compote.
Then add the grapefruit juice and either blend again or stir everything together with a small spoon.

Let everything chill in the fridge for about an hour, then you can serve this compote with a little Christmas cookie for baby’s snack (from 9 months) 😉
Our Christmas recipe—lychee, apple, and grapefruit compote for baby (from 6 months)—is now finished, and baby can enjoy it!
Enjoy, baby 😉
