Today, we are going to prepare small crepes for baby, perfect for Chandeleur, you might say 😉 They will be sugar-free and dairy-free, and you will see that we don’t need to add these two ingredients to all our pastry preparations to make them delicious!
Dairy-free vanilla crepe recipe for babies (from 10 months)
We love crepes! And we can imagine that baby will love them just as much as we do, so we can’t wait to introduce them. Chandeleur is the perfect time to prepare a good crepe batter.
As a mom, I’m constantly looking for the best for my daughter, just like you, I suppose! So I’ve included only the perfect ingredients for a tasty snack (or even breakfast) in my crepe batter recipe.
We will prepare a light crepe batter that will only contain one egg, flour (cereals, perfect!), water (instead of milk, yes, that’s perfect for babies with cow’s milk protein or lactose intolerance), and vanilla seeds (YUM!). We’ll add a teaspoon of sunflower oil, and voila! We can brown and flip our crepes in the pan!
From 10 months old, and under supervision, if your baby has been eating solid foods for a while, you can make this crepe batter recipe and watch them enjoy it for Chandeleur (or any other time of the year, after all, we don’t have to wait for Chandeleur to make crepes ^^).
I challenge you not to make the same crepes for yourself after tasting your baby’s…!
Here’s what you’ll need to make this vanilla crepe recipe for baby (sugar-free and dairy-free, from 10 months old, quantities for 5 small 12cm diameter crepes):
- [adinserter block="11"]
- - 1/2 cup flour (60g)
- - 1 egg
- - 3/8 cup water (90ml)
- - 1 teaspoon of sunflower oil
- - 1 vanilla pod (to take some fresh seeds) or vanilla extract
This recipe doesn’t require much preparation time at all. Why? Because personally, I put everything in my little blender, I blend all my ingredients at full power until my crepe batter is smooth!
So let’s start by placing our flour in the blender.
We add the egg.
Then the water and the teaspoon of sunflower oil.
Finally, we’re going to take some seeds from our vanilla pod by splitting the pod in half lengthwise, and easily extracting the seeds with a small knife.
We blend at full power for about ten seconds!
Our baby crepe batter is ready, we place it in the refrigerator to rest and let the vanilla seeds release all their flavor for about 45 minutes.
Once our crepe batter has rested, we take it out of the refrigerator. We prepare our small pan (or crepe pan) by rubbing a paper towel soaked in a little sunflower oil all over the surface. We heat the pan over medium heat, and once hot, let’s make the first crepe!
Using a small ladle, we drop our baby crepe batter onto the hot pan and tilt the pan in all directions to spread the batter evenly over the surface (personally, I didn’t hesitate to make them slightly thicker than regular crepes to make them easier for baby to eat!). We let the first side brown for about 2 to 3 minutes, keeping a close eye on the cooking. We flip the crepe and let the second side cook for 2 minutes.
It’s ready! We heat our other crepes in the same way, let them cool slightly, and then we can serve these crepes to baby for a snack (under supervision 😉) accompanied by a good applesauce or a fresh fruit and a small dairy product if there is no intolerance.
Enjoy your meal, baby! (and Mom and Dad… because I know very well that you’re going to taste them too :D)
