Today we’re making delicious Bolognese pasta for baby, staying as close as possible to those real Italian flavors, because there’s no reason baby shouldn’t get to enjoy them too!
Bolognese pasta for baby
Bolognese pasta, usually made with spaghetti, is a classic Italian dish. It is called “Pasta alla Bolognese” and comes from Bologna, Italy, which is where its name comes from.
Bolognese is a tomato sauce rich in meat (of course, we’ll use less here so baby doesn’t get too much protein), with onions, carrots, celery stalk, and spices. In other words, it’s a vitamin-packed dish, perfect for baby!
It’s clearly a super comforting, easy-to-make dish that the whole family loves, so there’s no reason not to go for a good spaghetti Bolognese recipe.
By the way, if you choose spaghetti, don’t hesitate to cut it into small pieces for baby (sorry if that feels like a betrayal of Italian culture, but you understand ;)) so baby can eat it without choking risk. We’ll save the full spaghetti-slurping moment for much later!
Here’s what you need to make this Bolognese pasta recipe for baby (2 generous portions):
Ingredients
How to make Bolognese pasta for baby
Start by washing the vegetables. Peel the carrot, remove the little strings from the celery stalk, and peel the onion. Cut the vegetables into rough pieces before placing them in a small food processor to finely chop them.

Blend the peeled tomatoes separately (I use peeled tomatoes rather than tomato purée, which is higher in sugar).

Cooking
Add a drizzle of olive oil to a skillet and heat over medium heat before adding the finely chopped vegetables. Sauté them for a few minutes.

Add the ground beef and cook for another 2 to 3 minutes.
Add the blended peeled tomatoes and stir everything together well. Simmer over low/medium heat for a good 10 to 15 minutes.

Meanwhile, cook the pasta (follow the package cooking time, but cook it a little longer than al dente so it has a soft, tender bite that’s pleasant for baby).
Cut the spaghetti according to baby’s age.
Now simply place the pasta in a dish, spoon the Bolognese sauce on top, and serve to baby and the whole family if you made enough for everyone to enjoy together!

Storage
Once your Bolognese pasta for baby and the whole family is ready, let it cool at room temperature for about 30 minutes if you want to store it for later.
I still recommend cooking the pasta at the last minute before serving, even though everything can be prepared ahead of time.
- Refrigerator: You can store the Bolognese pasta in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
- Freezer: If you want to store the Bolognese sauce longer, you can freeze it. Place the Bolognese sauce in a freezer-safe container. It can be stored for 2 months.
Tip: When thawing, place the Bolognese sauce in the refrigerator the night before, or reheat it gently in a saucepan for slow, even warming.
