When I started solids with my girls (Alix first, then Sasha), I quickly noticed that some flavors were naturally easier for them to accept than others.
And corn… it is exactly that reassuring little flavor: mild, slightly sweet, and easy to love from the very first spoonful.
It is actually a purée I often prepared when I wanted something simple, quick, and, most importantly, loved.
Corn is a vegetable that few parents think to offer at the beginning, and yet it is perfect from 4 months: its flavor is very mild, its color is pretty (yes, that can matter for babies!), and once finely blended, it gives an almost creamy texture.
At our house, this was often a “guaranteed smile” purée: if you are in the stage where baby is discovering flavors and making faces at almost everything… this one might just save your day!
You can use a fresh ear of corn or canned corn (with no added salt, of course). Both work very well.
You simply need to blend it well and, for the very beginning, strain it if the little skins are still a bit thick.
The first time I made this purée for Alix, I remember getting a bright yellow, ultra-smooth cream that was so good I ended up keeping a little “for myself” (yes, that happens often).
And as with all vegetable purées from 4 months, add a small teaspoon of oil at the end for those good essential fatty acids.
The result: a mild, rounded, easy-to-digest purée that is perfect for baby’s first spoonfuls.
Ingredients
(For 1 to 2 baby portions)
Step-by-step preparation
Prepare the corn
- If using fresh corn: remove the husks and silks, then rinse the ear well.
Cook it in a pot of boiling water for about 10 to 15 minutes. - If using canned corn: rinse it under clean water.
Remove the kernels from the cob
Once cooked, cut the kernels off with a knife, slicing lengthwise along the cob. Personally, I hate doing this, but corn is so good that sometimes you just have to do it!

Blend finely
Place the corn kernels in the blender with a little cooking water.
Blend for a good while until you get a very smooth texture.
If the skins are a bit thick, pass the purée through a sieve and keep only the creamy part. This step can really transform your corn purée!
Serve
Add 1 teaspoon of vegetable oil for good fatty acids, mix well, and adjust the texture with a little water or breast milk if needed.
How to serve corn purée to baby
You can serve this purée warm or at room temperature, on its own for a first taste, or mixed with other mild vegetables such as sweet potato, carrot, or zucchini.
For slightly older babies, it can also be used as a base for a chicken corn cream or a little corn and rice velouté.
Storage
- Refrigerator: up to 48 hours in a small airtight jar.
- Freezer: up to 1 month, in ice cube trays for easy portioning.
FAQ – Corn Purée for Baby
At what age can baby have corn?
From 4 months, if your pediatrician has approved the start of solids. Just serve it well blended, without skins and with no added salt.
Can I give canned corn to a baby?
Yes, as long as you choose a no-salt-added can and rinse it well. Canned corn is quicker to prepare and keeps a mild flavor.
Do I need to strain corn purée?
Yes, for the first few times it is best. The corn skins can be a little thick.
Pass the purée through a fine-mesh sieve and keep only the creamy part. You can offer the full texture later, from around 8 months.
What vegetables go well with corn?
Corn pairs very well with mild vegetables:
carrot, sweet potato, zucchini, pumpkin…
And for more complete meals from 6 months: with a little chicken or ham.
Can I add milk to the purée?
Yes, you can add a little breast milk or infant formula after cooking for a smoother texture and a familiar flavor for baby. Be careful with storage, though: no more than 24 hours in the refrigerator.
