Recipe Steps
Today, we’re going to make delicious pancakes for babies (and the whole family!), which are very easy and quick to prepare. The special trick with these pancakes is to use a different type of milk than you typically use…
No, in this recipe, we won’t be using “regular” milk.
The secret to the fluffiness of these pancakes is, among other things, using cultured buttermilk (or kefir). Cultured buttermilk will have an effect on the rise and fluffiness of your pancakes.
Good to know: this type of milk is easily digested as it contains less lactose, and the bacteria in these milks help our intestinal flora! It’s particularly recommended during pregnancy if you had any doubts 😉
You can easily find it in the dairy section of your local supermarket, next to the yogurts or sour creams.
About 5 minutes of preparation, 10-15 minutes of resting, and the batter is ready! I think it’s a great recipe, and you can easily prepare it with your kids ❤️
As with all recipes, your baby should be comfortable with solids.
Here’s what you need to prepare this fluffy pancake recipe for babies and the whole family (From 12 months, makes 6 fluffy pancakes):
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour (140g)
- 1/2 tablespoon baking powder (about 5g, roughly half a packet)
- 1 tablespoon sugar (optional, can be supplemented or replaced with vanilla extract)
- 1 egg
- 1 cup cultured buttermilk or kefir (250ml)
- 1 tablespoon melted butter (10g)
Preparation
Let’s start by mixing all the dry ingredients in our mixing bowl.
So add the flour,
then the baking powder,
And finally, the sugar.
In a small container, melt the butter (in the microwave, for example, or directly in a saucepan).
In a bowl, beat the egg, then add the cultured buttermilk, and finally the melted butter.
Quickly mix these three ingredients so that the warm butter doesn’t cook the egg, which would result in unpleasant egg bits in the batter.
Pour the liquid ingredients we’ve just mixed into our first bowl of dry ingredients, and gently mix while leaving a few lumps. This is crucial; it will create small air bubbles and promote the fluffiness of your pancakes 😉
Mix the pancake batter
Let the batter rest for 10 minutes (15-20 minutes is even better 😉). You’ll see how beautiful bubbles will form inside 😉
Cooking
Heat a crepe pan/skillet for 1 minute over medium heat with a little oil spread using a paper towel.
Here we go! Spoon the pancake batter into the hot pan using a tablespoon, trying to form a disk about 4 inches in diameter and a little over 1/3 inch thick.
Let it cook for about 2-3 minutes over medium heat until small bubbles appear, then flip and cook for another minute or so on the other side.
It’s ready!
I’ve given “a lot” of explanations, but it’s actually very simple; you won’t even need to refer back to the recipe afterward 😉
Our fluffy pancake recipe for babies is now complete, and the whole family can enjoy! You’ll feel like you’re biting into a little cloud ☁️ 😍
Feel free to cut the pancakes into small pieces to help your baby take appropriate portions.
Enjoy your meal!
Storage
If you prepare a large quantity of pancakes for babies and the whole family, you may wonder how to store them to enjoy them for a longer time. Fortunately, pancakes are very adaptable when it comes to storage.
Room Temperature Storage: Pancakes can be kept at room temperature for a few hours, but it’s best to consume them quickly to preserve their freshness and fluffiness. If you’ve prepared a large quantity and don’t plan to eat them immediately, you can consider using one of the storage methods below.
Refrigerator Storage: If you want to keep the pancakes for a few days, it’s recommended to place them in an airtight container and refrigerate them. Pancakes will maintain their texture and flavor for about 2 to 3 days. To reheat refrigerated pancakes, you can microwave them for a few seconds or warm them in a skillet over low heat.
Freezer Storage: If you’ve prepared a large quantity of pancakes and want to keep them for a more extended period, the freezer is your ally. To freeze pancakes, place them on a baking sheet, spaced slightly apart (to prevent them from sticking together during freezing), and put the tray in the freezer. Once the pancakes are frozen, transfer them to an airtight freezer-safe bag. Pancakes can be stored in the freezer for about 1 to 2 months.
When you want to enjoy the frozen pancakes, simply reheat them in the toaster, oven, or microwave. This storage method is ideal for having pancakes ready to be enjoyed at any time, whether for breakfast, a snack, or even a meal.
Pancake storage is straightforward and flexible. Whether you choose to store them at room temperature for a short period, in the refrigerator for a few days, or in the freezer for later use, you can always enjoy these delicious fluffy baby and family pancakes!
So, feel free to prepare a large batch of pancakes and store them in the way that suits you best. This way, you can offer your baby and the whole family a delicious breakfast or a delightful snack in no time 🙂
