I don’t know about you, but I love tomatoes, especially when they come fresh from the garden, with their juicy flesh and incredible taste. That’s why I wanted to prepare a little puree for babies using tomatoes, potatoes for creaminess, and ham for added flavor. You can skip the ham and stick to tomatoes and potatoes for a delightful evening meal. Baby will love it! Tomatoes give the puree a beautiful reddish color, and I can assure you it’s absolutely tempting.
Tomatoes are rich in vitamin C and excellent for boosting the immune system. So, it’s a great choice for your little one!
For now, until your baby turns 12 months old, we will exclusively cook the tomatoes. (Raw tomatoes can be allergenic and hard to digest for babies, so we avoid them. Once again, for this type of food, don’t hesitate to consult your pediatrician.)
Here’s what you need to prepare this tomato, potato, and ham puree recipe for your baby (From 6 months, yields 3 portions of 6 oz each):
- [adinserter block="11"]
- - 8.8 oz (250g) fresh tomatoes
- - 3 small potatoes suitable for mashing (about 8.8 oz/250g)
- - 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- - 1.4 oz (40g) of ham
Let’s start by thoroughly washing our tomatoes and potatoes (even if they come from the garden…).
We’ll begin with the potatoes. Peel them, cut them into small pieces for faster cooking, and pressure cook them in a pressure cooker for about 10 minutes or steam them for 15 minutes if you don’t have a pressure cooker.
Next, peel the tomatoes, remove the stems, and cut them into small pieces.
In a pan, heat the olive oil and add the tomatoes. Cook them over medium-low heat for about ten minutes. We don’t want to let all the juice evaporate, so if the heat is too high, feel free to lower it.
Then, cut 1.4 oz (40g) of ham and place it in the blender with the cooked vegetables.
Blend! Your puree should have a lovely orange/reddish color, and I can tell you the tomato adds an irresistible flavor! For babies from 8 months, start leaving some texture, so don’t blend too much or make the puree too smooth.
Enjoy, baby!
