Recipe steps
Today we’re making a little biscuit babies love: baby ladyfingers!
Baby ladyfingers
Ladyfingers are delicious little dry, airy biscuits.
Homemade ladyfingers let you offer baby a healthier alternative to store-bought biscuits, with no added preservatives! They are easy to make with simple ingredients we all usually have in the pantry: flour, eggs, and here, banana 🙂
This is a dairy-free ladyfinger recipe, perfect for little ones with a cow’s milk protein intolerance or allergy 😉
These baby ladyfingers are perfect for tiny hands: baby can grab them and suck on them when starting to discover solid foods. Baby should be able to sit up well before you offer them, and should already be comfortable with pieces. Always offer them under close supervision, of course!
Here’s what you need to make about 12 baby ladyfingers:
Ingredients
(You’ll find baby’s first biscuit recipe here!)
How to make these baby ladyfingers?
Start by preheating the oven to 350°F (180°C).
Mash the banana (70 g), then set it aside.

In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking soda (or baking powder), and the sugar.
In a separate bowl, beat the egg with a whisk or fork.
Add the beaten egg, mashed banana, and sunflower oil to the mixing bowl, and don’t hesitate to use your hands to bring the dough together!
You’ll get a nice ball of baby ladyfinger dough.

Still using your hands, shape pretty ladyfingers about 3 inches long, 1/2 inch wide, and about 1/2 inch thick (8 cm long, 1 cm wide, 1 cm thick) by rolling pieces of dough between your hands.
Each ladyfinger should be finger-sized, so baby can hold it comfortably and it stays sturdy when baby brings it to their mouth.
As you go, place the ladyfingers on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them slightly apart.

Feel free to prepare 2 test batches the first time you make this baby ladyfinger recipe, because every oven is different and this will help you adjust the baking time.
Bake for 15 to 20 minutes (watch the baking time carefully depending on your oven!).
When they come out of the oven, let the ladyfingers cool completely. They should be lightly golden and dry, but still soft enough for baby to chew, of course!
Your baby ladyfingers are ready, and baby can enjoy them! Always feed your baby under supervision.
Enjoy, baby 🙂

Frequently asked questions
Can I use another oil instead of sunflower oil?
Yes, you can replace sunflower oil with another neutral vegetable oil, such as canola oil or grapeseed oil. I do not recommend olive oil, as it could give the ladyfingers too strong a flavor.
Can I remove the egg from the recipe if baby is allergic?
In this recipe, the egg helps bind the ingredients together and gives the ladyfingers structure.
You can try replacing the egg with 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed or chia seeds mixed with 3 tablespoons water, or with plant-based yogurt, but the texture may be slightly different.
Can I use a flour other than wheat flour?
Yes, you can use rice flour, oat flour, or another gluten-free flour if baby has a gluten intolerance. Keep in mind that the texture of the ladyfingers may change depending on the flour you choose.
Can I give these baby ladyfingers before 9 months?
It is recommended to offer these ladyfingers to a baby who can sit up well and who is comfortable with pieces, generally around 9 months. Feel free to discuss this with your pediatrician for reassurance!
What should I do if the ladyfingers are too hard?
If the ladyfingers are too hard, I recommend slightly reducing the baking time next time, or adding a little more mashed banana to make them softer. You can also lightly dip them in water or milk (breast milk or infant formula) before offering them to baby.
Can I add spices to these baby ladyfingers?
Of course! You can personalize the recipe by adding mild spices such as cinnamon or vanilla. This will add a little extra flavor that baby should enjoy!
